Pregnancy and Postpartum Massage in the South Coast, Eurobodalla and Shoalhaven

In my world, I wish pregnancy massage and postpartum bodywork was a normal and integral part of every women’s Pregnancy Care.

Pregnancy Massage is specific for a women’d body who is growing another human! And across cultures, massage is a consistent and well practiced part of pregnancy. The body is stretching, changing and making space for a whole new body. This is linked with the mother finding with new ways of moving, walking and doing everyday tasks which accomodate the extra weight off a baby, placenta and amniotic fluid.

Pregnancy and postpartum massage is well known to support physical pains in the body including pelvic girdle pain and lower back or abdominal pain. Other subtle pregnancy challenges which can be hard to treat such as insomnia, stress or anxiety can also be eased with pregnancy specific massage.

The baby loves it! and we deserve to be been receiving massage during pregnancy to support the multiple daily changes that occur during the about 40 weeks of gestation.

In the Postpartum time, massage supports the long term health of the mother by giving the body nourishment to return to it’s pre-pregnant place. It is supportive for the uterus and abdominal placement, back aches from breast-feeding and bringing energy and life-force into the body.

When women have c-section scars, massage treatments include care for their caesarean scar. This massage can be sometimes confronting or a little scary to mothers, but as a practitioner I am supportive in a way that makes the experience positive and helpful. C-Section massage supports the body to heal, not make adhesions and supports the scar formation to be small and neat, its wonderful and important work.
